Alan Moore Doesn't Read Books. He Stares Them Down Until He Gets The Information He Wants.

Life
* I have the hangover of death. Vanilla flavored vodka is the devil's elixir.

Books
* I lust for this. I lust after this pillow thing that lets you read books without holding them. And you make it yourself. So no money is spent, which I support ALWAYS.

Star Trek
* Here's an article on how Star Trek made you a better person when you were a young sprat. As if anyone doubted this fact. Were it not for Star Trek, I would be far more judgmental than I already am.

Journalism
* In college and high school, I adored Maureen Dowd. I thought she was the shit: witty, clever, informed, etc. I have since revised my opinion of her considerably, in no small part because I read more journalists with actual skills (also her book about men and women irritated me beyond words). So I laughed at her plagiarized article, and I laugh at her in general. She has Pulitzers and money and fame. I have a blog. I'm allowed to laugh at her. Plus, if you've ever read her work, it's pretty clear she didn't write the piece. Dowd FAIL.

V
* V gets its own section even though it isn't out yet because it SHALL be awesome, for a thousand reasons, and I will love it. These are ordained things. Do not question them. Anyway, here is the trailer. I think it's supremely awesome, except for a palpable lack of Alan Tudyk, which fills me with alarm. Still, SO AWESOME. LOOK AT THE SPACESHIP. I want an I Heart V shirt:

Twitter
* Tina Fey is on Twitter. You should follow her, because I want her to be my best friend.

Cars
* As stupid as the first Transformers was, and as stupid as the next will be, you can't argue that the souped-up Bumblebee is a sexy, sexy car.

[Found at Jalopnik]
And they're MAKING it, for people to BUY. I cannot afford it, ever, because it is expensive and far too perfect for me. But YOU should buy it, and give me rides EVERYWHERE.

TeeVee
* I am happy Chuck is not getting cancelled, because it is funny and clever and sweet, and really deserves to live on. But I am not thrilled about the almost overwhelming presence of Subway that has been there already, and will become so freaking prevalent that soon the show will be called, 'Subway's Chuck!' And I will be sad. The things we do to keep our shows alive.

Daily Hot Guy

[Hugh Laurie, AKA House, AKA Prince George, AKA That Guy's British?, AKA Bertie Wooster, being almost obscenely sexy with a motorcycle]

Geek Want
* This could also qualify as girly want. IT CROSSES ALL BOUNDARIES. LOOK AT IT. THIS IS HI-TECH STAR TREK SHIT:

[Found at DVICE]
It's an MP3 player and it's super-thin AND it's mirror-finished, making it super-sexy and cool as all hell, and WHY is it not mine, I ask you?

Netflix
* And you though Netflix couldn't get any more wonderful. UNGRATEFUL FOOLS. BOW BEFORE YOU MOVIE-DELIVERING GOD, WHO HAS IMPROVED ITS RECOMMENDATION SYSTEM EVEN MORE, BEYOND YOUR WILDEST FANTASIES. BOW, PEONS. Um, that was scary.

Technology
* I... I don't know. I just don't know anymore:

[Found at WorldOfWonder]
This requires explanation. It is a program online where you can hit real people with dodgeballs. It's British. I don't know if that ads anything, but... I can't even... DUDE. IS THIS THE BEST THING EVER, OR THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE HUMAN RACE? I CANNOT DECIDE.

Hangovers FAIL.

If You Gave Alan Moore A Typewriter & 0.001th Of A Second He Could Write The Complete Works Of Shakespeare.

Blog
* Unlike most lazy bloggers out there, I intend to post during the holiday weekend. In part because, well, why not? I like blogging. It's what I do while ingesting massive amounts of coffee every morning and howling into the sky over the horrors of being conscious. Basically, expect Fear and Loathing to be on its regular blogging schedule throughout the long weekend.

WTF, INTERNET?
* This requires a little explanation, and also may expose me as being somewhat clueless on occasion. It's all Twitter's fault, however. Just keep that in mind. Someone on Twitter asked, one fine day, what a poop sock was. If you know what a poop sock is already, you are probably laughing by now. I did not know, and I had some time on my hands. I Googled it, and clicked Images. This was the Wrong Choice. I have had numerous bad experiences with Google Images, usually by typing in something innocent like 'Rorschach' or 'shoes' and getting hideous pictures of genital piercings on strangers, or, I don't know, clowns. But I keep going back, like the internet masochist I am. Anyway. I typed in 'poop sock.' This is the image I got:

Now, it does look sort of like a giant glass penis, but this is in no way the most alarming thing I've found online, not by a longshot. So, I used the equally trusty/traumatizing site Urban Dictionary to discover what a Poop Sock really was, and what the hell this big glass penis thing was. And I found out:
Poop Sock: A normal foot sock which is used to catch feces from World of Warcraft players who can't get up to use the bathroom while in the heat of battle.

That glass penis-shaped thing? A poop sock holder. That's what it is. There was a time before I knew about Poop Socks, and a time after. After is worse. Although, in retrospect, Google Images could have shown me things much, much worse. So maybe I should be grateful. Seriously, internet, What The FUCK?

Animals
* I am almost positive I have posted something like this before, but I am too lazy to go look through my archives, and anyway, this NEVER stops scaring me:

[Found at UniqueDaily]
That is a crab, and it is real, and it is COMING FOR YOUR GROIN. Look at that bastard. They can be three feet in diameter. Three feet. I am five feet tall. In a fair fight, the crab would probably win. You piss one of these things off, you are dead. Right now they're only found on the Indo-Pacific Islands, but for HOW LONG? I mean, one of those things decides it wants to see New York and attaches itself to the side of a boat, you ain't getting it off. Game Over, Man. Oh, an apparently they are edible and delicious. That is irrelevant, when there is a chance you could wake up with one of those things perched on your chest, staring at you with its beady black eyes.

Depression Session
* With the economy in the shitter, luxuries like food are becoming harder and harder to justify. At Wired, you can eat free for a year, and probably survive! Most of the links are for England, because everything is better in England. Everything.

Girly Shit
* I like a lot of MAC products (makeup and computer, HA) but I will not be buying this Style Warrior shit.

[Found at MakeupAndBeautyBlog]
Leopard and tiger-skin patterns make me think of my Hot Topic high school years or, paradoxically, a geriatric cougar with lip wrinkles smearing this on before going out to hit on drunk college freshmen.

Tattoo Of Win

[Found at LOLTATZ]

Food
* I love coffee. No, I REALLY love coffee. Coffee is delicious and makes me happy and keeps me from the yawning void of existential despair that I see most mornings, because mornings are evil. I am a huge fan of coffee. Even shitty coffee. In my book I'm writing, coffee plays a prominent supporting role. This may not speak well of my book, but only further proves the magical powers of coffee. I LOVE coffee.
All that aside, I am not drinking coffee from beans that have been shat out by an animal. I do not roll that way. And I have eaten weird food in my time, and will most likely. But the coffee beans were POOD OUT of another living creature. That is too much for me. Also, when the coffee is described as 'rich and syrupy,' I start to gag a little. Food Fail.

Comics
* I want this book because A) It impressed Cory Doctorow, who is a modern-day techno-wizard, B) It looks gorgeous, and C) The outcome of the campaign made me happy.

Moment Of Win

see more Fail Blog

Sex
* This was almost a WTF, INTERNET?, but the Poop Sock upset me on a much more profound level, so it won out. This is beef jerky underwear, and it is also Bedazzled, which adds an extra layer of ick to the whole endeavor:

[Found at Geekologie]
I mean, yeah, they're funny, and if you're a die-hard meat-lover they would probably make you very happy for like a week. But I look at them, and I can't help but think that have dried beef that close to your unmentionables is a bit unsanitary. I mean, I get it, meat wrapped in meat is HILARIOUS and CLEVER. Yeah, they're for dudes. If my guy showed up wearing one of those, there would be tears. Not happy tears. Shame tears.

Jackie Earle Haley
* Jackie Earle Haley, who is going to win my survey, which is surprising (no offense to Mr. Haley, who you all know I unwholesomely ADORE, but come on, it IS unexpected, right?), is going to be on the TeeVee! I haz excitement! He won't be on until next year, so I'll have to rely on the Watchmen DVD and Shutter Island to tide me over (Shutter Island IS coming out this year, RIGHT?). Anyway, his show is Human Target, and I do not give a shit about the plot or other actors, only that he is small and snarky and I love his mustache.

I was going to post pictures too, but I believe I'll save that for his Hot Guy post of Win, because NOBODY voted for Quinto.

Movies
* This is a site that tells you the best time to go to the bathroom during a movie. WHY I did not have this when I was dying during Grindhouse, I do not know.

Daily Hot Guy

[David Tennant, AKA The Doctor, AKA Barty Crouch Jr, AKA WHY ARE YOU LEAVING US SO SOON, DOCTOR? HAVEN'T WE SUFFERED ENOUGH, YOU CRUEL SEXY SCOT?, rocking the stubble]

Politics
* Oh, this is a wonderful idea with absolutely NO CHANCE of negative repercussions: The Texas Senate is going to allow college students to walk around with concealed handguns. Because, as anyone who went to college will tell you, everyone in college is level-headed and clear-thinking, and people NEVER snap due to stress or hormones or because they are secretly bugshit insane. Because, clearly, the way to prevent another Virginia Tech massacre is to give EVERYBODY guns. Guns solve EVERYTHING, especially when you are drunk and stoned and hysterical because you think you're going to fail a major test, or your professor caught you cheating, or your boyfriend/girlfriend is sleeping with your roommate, or your roommate likes to walk around naked and is frightening without clothes. In conclusion, I am staying the HELL away from college students in Texas.

Alan Moore Got A Perfect Score On His SAT's Simply By Writing 'Alan Moore' For Every Answer.

Random Conversation
Me: I'm really surprised that Jackie Earle Haley is winning on my survey. I mean, I love him like whoah, but he's not conventionally handsome. I kind of expected Chris Pine to slam everyone else down. Why do you think that is?
Boy: I guess strange people read your blog.
Me: But I created the survey.
Boy: ...
Me: Do you think I'm strange?
Boy:...
Me: Well?
Boy: You look really cute today.

Vanity
* Here's pictures of my new hairstyle. It's gots blonde in it!

I'm running back out now. As I keep saying on Twitter, EPIC FRIDAY FAIL. No Terminator. Just errands. Tragic.
- LV

Ghosts Are Actually Caused By Alan Moore Killing People Faster Than Death Can Process Them.

Freakangels Friday
* HUZZAH AGAIN! Or rather, BOO. It's a skip week. Which, as the site so succinctly puts it, means no chikkinz. WHAT'S THE POINT OF FRIDAY WITH OUT FREAKANGELS? Warren Ellis is a cruel overlord. We were negligent in our human sacrifices, and he has punished us as he sees fit. We will learn. On the upside, another week without the Imminent Death Of My Favorite Character, so I guess that's something. PLUS, my Freakangels bag shipped yesterday, so soon I will have physical proof of its awesome.

Terminator: Salvation
* Since the movie came out today, and I am leaving shortly to go see it, it gets its own section. Just for today, however.

* First off, the movie apparently sucks according to critics, but people still like it anyway. I love the first two Terminators, and hated the third because it sucked. In this one, I expect steampunk clothes, explosions, robots, and Christian Bale being a badass. Plot would be nice, but really, the first Terminator didn't make a hell of a lot of sense, either.

* Cracked gives us a hilarious and disturbing picture of life in CyberDyne, via Emails. Naked Austrian men frighten everyone. Especially naked Austrian women.

* This has nothing at all to do with the movie, but it's the touching and heartfelt tale of McG challenging Michael Bay to a penis-measuring contest. My only sorrow is that they never whipped it out, with rulers, on the Universal steps.

TeeVee
* Flash Forward, ABC's new weird show that comes out in fall, is on my tentative viewing schedule for fall. Mainly because the plot is so bizarre, and because Seth MacFarlane is one of my shameful, secret crushes because he's got that amazing voice, and he's in the pilot.

I will no doubt fall in love with this show of MacFarlane's baritone is a regular occurrence. Don't judge me.

Sequel Fail
* Fucking... I THOUGHT WE TALKED ABOUT THIS. I THOUGHT WE ALL SAT DOWN AS A SPECIES AND AGREED THAT GHOSTBUSTERS 3 WOULD BE THE EQUIVALENT OF GENOCIDE. I CLEARLY REMEMBER EVERYONE AGREEING NOT TO SPEAK OF THIS IDEA ANYMORE. AND ELIZA DUSHKU IS NOT ALLOWED TO BE IN THIS MOVIE. SHE HAS TO FOCUS ON DOLLHOUSE NOT SUCKING AND MAKING IT TO A THIRD SEASON. SHE HAS ENOUGH PRESSURE.

Fashion
* Cloris Leachman has her own clothing line:

[Found at WorldOfWonder]
Yeah, that's pretty much what I expected when I heard this news. The clothes smell like alcohol, cheap sex, and Vicodin.

Inglourious Basterds
Lalala, I do not hear the bad reviews of IB (I am tired of typing out the name). I will love it as I love all Tarantino movies, except Four Rooms, which was just bizarre and unpleasant. Here are clips from IB, and LALALALA IT IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER.

Daily Hot Guy
* This is the first DHG that isn't on my personal crush list, but after getting multiple requests for some attention on LJ, I have decided to post a picture of him:

[Anton Yelchin, AKA Charlie Bartlett, AKA Pavel Chekhov, AKA Kyle Reese In The Newest Terminator (meaning he's Zach From Heroes' dad, creating ANOTHER Star Trek/Heroes connection, HUZZAH!) AKA Oh CRAP This Guy Is Three Years Younger Than Me I Am Officially Depressed, AKA, Do You Have Zachary Quinto's Phone Number By Any Chance?]

Geek Want
* Anyone remember that Alec Baldwin movie The Shadow?

I saw this movie, unwisely, when I was eight. It scared the everloving shit out of me. Alec Baldwin scared me, that floating knife with the freaking TEETH scared me, The Shadow himself scared me, Ian McKellan scared me (incidentally, what THE HELL was Ian McKellen doing in this movie? Or Peter Boyle? He did not scare me. He only scared me in Monster's Ball, which scared me for many reasons, including Naked Billy Bob Thornton). I still have nightmares about this movie from time to time. Alongside Child's Play, Killer Klowns From Outer Space, and It, The Shadow ranks as one of the most terrifying experiences of my childhood.
All that aside, I seriously sort of want to own the action figures:

[Found at ToplessRobot]
Just to say I owned them. Just because. I mean, The Shadow action figures? That's so weird it's not even geeky. It's beyond geeky. There are more terrible and confusing action figures on this list, including ones from Little Nicky and Waterworld and Battlefield Earth, but I don't want those. Unless that have one of Quentin Tarantino as the blind priest. I'd buy that.

Alan Moore Cannot Predict The Future. The Future Just Better Fucking Do What Alan Moore Says.

Life
* Do not want to be awake. Want to be asleep. I have a surprise near-week off from work, which is confusing. I will spend it studying, and probably NOTHING ELSE (except seeing a few friends who I miss terribly, due to the exile of LSAT). It's very nice out. I want to go sleep in the sun. Coffee no longer works for me. This is when people experiment with hard drugs, or snort plutonium.

Books
* I am not a fan of ebooks. I do not like them, I do not want anything to do with them. I'll stick to my old-fashioned ones made out of trees and ink, thank you very much. Wired, which I love and would be friends with were it a person, not a magazine, has an article on why ebooks are ugly. To be honest, their ugliness and simplicity is the ONLY thing I like about ebooks. I can pretend I'm on Star Trek. What? Of course, this will probably end the same way my iPod hatred ended: me uploading all my CDs to my hard drive, and worshipping at the altar of Apple and actually panicking when I can't find said iPod. And I AM selling a lot of my books on Amazon. OH GOD, IT'S STARTED ALREADY.

Cars
* This car costs $14,123,533.07, if I used the money converter application I found correctly:

[Found at Wired]
Forgive me, but it's not that sexy a car. I mean, if I'm going to pay over fourteen million dollars for a fucking car, that car better make bars of pure gold. I'd better have howling orgasms whenever I sit in the damn thing. The windshield wipers need to spray champagne, and the seats need to be made of unicorn skin, and Zachary Quinto and Hunter Thompson AND Russell Brand need to be sitting in the backseat. Even then, it's a little pricy.

Transformers
* No, not the movie (although yesterday on Twitter I did confess to wanting Michael Bay to direct my life, solely for the explosions and production values). This is a USB drive, and may be the most fun anyone will ever have with a USB drive, which generally speaking do not make for a giddy time:

[Found at NerdApproved]
I totally desire this. My USB is a big clunky scratched-up bastard that looks like a hunk of grey plastic. It transforms into NOTHING. NOTHING AT ALL. Plus, how much fun would it be to stroll into some big, important meeting, whip out your Transformers cat, go 'GRRRRR ARGH' at the boss, and then plug it in to show them your brilliant business plan? This is why I am not allowed into important meetings.

Technology
* Why the hell is everything on the internet about toilets?

[Found at DVICE]
So, did anyone watch American Idol last night? I did not. I have never watched an episode, in large part because A) I find the whole thing to be enormously depressing, and B) Quentin Tarantino has appeared on the show more than once, and this destroys my faith in the universe. My brother and his friend did watch it last night, and at one point I heard not only KISS on the show, but also Rod Stewart, which very well may be reasons C and D on why I will never watch it. But the dude everyone thought would win didn't win. Hurm. Oh, this toilet closes automatically, without you having to waste time pushing down the lid. Anyone excited about Terminator: Salvation coming out tomorrow?

Star Trek
* I cannot decide who I would like to play Khan in the Star Trek sequel. In my internal sequel, Russell Brand plays a swarthy alien lothario who rules over a planet of sexified aliens. I would kind of love Jackie Earle Haley to play him (you KNOW he could pull it off, if he were younger). It's hard for me to decide. I'm biased, as always, towards the guys I like. Looking at the picture, I feel like a bulked-up Christian Bale or Edward Norton could do it. Or maybe I'm just trying to create the most pervtastic sequel possible. Alan Tudyk should be in it. Or NATHON FILLION. Can you imagine the Browncoats screams of delight? I'm not sure we'd all survive. My point? Uh, I didn't really have one, aside from the fact that Khan has a good chance of being in the sequel.

Journalism
* Anderson Cooper apologized for making a tea-bagging joke. We're all disappointed, Silver Fox. The tea-baggers are insane idiots, and we need to mock them, constantly, because otherwise tea-bagging will spread. And not the naked kind you joked about. The Lipton kind.

V
* No, this is not the TV series based on the comic/movie V For Vendetta (not that that was my initial thought or anything, and not that I actually clapped my hands in excitement), but the re-imagining of the science fiction TV show from the eighties. Who cares, though Alan Tudyk is going to be on TV all the time!

[Found at io9]
It is worrying that he's not in many of the production stills, but in ANOTHER interview he said that the first episode has a Firefly link. And Jackie Earle Haley will be on TV. Man, I need to do a TV round-up. 2009-2010 is shaping up to be a season of AWESOME.

Daily Hot Guy
* In honor of his epic performance as Alpha, and his upcoming stint on V, and because he's Wash, motherfuckers:

[Alan Tudyk, making geeky sexy, and really working the purple tie]

More later. SO MUCH TV GOODNESS. I haz excitement, etc.

Alan Moore Lives In A Castle That He Built By Hand Using Bricks Made Of The Compressed Souls Of The Damned.

Geek Want
* How cool is this?

[Found at NerdApproved]
I don't know why the novelty of this appeals to me so greatly. It would certainly make for some supremely fun cleaning sessions. You could envision yourself as, I don't know, a hard-edged gangster's moll with a vendetta against dirt and grime. You could whip this thing out with a raised eyebrow and slay dirt. Or maybe I just need extreme motivation to wipe off my keyboard.

WTF, INTERNET?
* I think what bothers me the most about this product if that it's on Amazon:

[Found at Amazon.com]
Remember when Amazon just sold books? And nothing else, except for like CDs which nobody buys anymore? Those were simpler times, weren't they? You could log on and make your Wish List and not accidentally click on something that would lead you to a metal vaginal speculum that looks like a wine bottle opener and SCARES me. Dear GOD, when did Amazon become a place of FEAR?

Depression Session
* So, this is my future home:

[Found at DVICE]
This is a portable home/storage center for the homeless. It can hold 250 pounds of personal items - although let's be honest, if you're residing in one of these babies you'll probably be carrying around 250 pounds of unpaid credit card bills, and maybe some canned turkeys for food. Still, it is nifty. Be the envy of all the other homeless folks on your block!

Girly Shit
* Yeah, this is too much for me:

[Found at Neatorama]
I can't find out how much this jewelry claw-hand is, but it's Fendi, and that means it is expensive as shit. I guess you could use it as a really fancy brass-knuckle weapon if someone tries to mug you, but I'm not sure it would hold up under extensive wear. Also, could be pricy. Plus, it's ugly and creepy. I bet Madonna has five.

Tattoo of Win
* Kudos for truth in advertising, if nothing else:

[Found at LOLTATZ]

Food
* I'm posting this because I'm related to vegans, and when you are related to vegans you quickly discover the good vegan food versus the vegan food that makes you want to drink the blood of freshly slaughtered lambs. Babycakes, a vegan bakery, is in the former category. They make stuff like this:

That is a cookies 'n cream cupcake, my friends. Don't tell me you wouldn't eat ten of those. And they have a cookbook out, which I may buy, the next time I need to bid a tearful farewell to animal-based products. (Incidentally, my vegan cinnamon rolls and vegan blueberry scones are orgasmic.)

Moment Of Win

Sex
* Can you imagine, at any point in a relationship, your partner taking one of these out:

[Found at Jezebel]
Affixing one to their unmentionables, and then looking at you expectantly? This is what we ladies call a 'deal-breaker.' This is horrifying. The guy who invented this must hate sex, because he is clearly never getting laid again. Word of advice: you want people to go down there, DO NOT utilize one of these things.

And on that note, I bid you goodnight.

Disgustedly yours,
LV

The Only Thing That Alan Moore Didn't Create Is God. Whether Or Not God Created Moore Is Still Debatable.

Technology
* I can't decide if this makes me very happy or very sad:

[Found at BoingBoing]
I mean, they're VHS! We've spot on them and rejected them and negated their very existence. They used to be the source of movies and TV and entertainment. And now we're using them as furniture? On the other hand, it's a pretty cool table.

Star Trek
* Here's an article on the fashion of Star Trek. Which, if they change AT ALL, I will cry and scream and start a political group to protest the change, because I think they're sexy, OK?

Dollhouse
* And here we have another article on the resurrection of Dollhouse. I kind of wish it would have moved to a less awful day. Plus, a fond farewell to Sarah Connor, and its endless Monologuing.

TeeVee
* Or maybe the monologuing will continue, in DVD form? Sarah Connor emerging from the ashes would be terribly appropriate. And maybe it will continue to exist on DVDs, and that's how I end up watching most TV shows anyway, so I'd be lying if I said I'd notice right away.

Health
* Coffee and booze make everything better. Scientists proved it. Fuck everyone, I won. I'm right! I'ma celebrate by smoking a pack of cigarettes, drinking a bottle of Sobieski, and chasing it with a gallon of Columbian coffee. Then I'ma going to work.

Alcohol
* Speaking of how alcohol makes you live forever, here's a nifty tool that ensures you enjoy the medical aspects of booze without the embarrassing 'I don't know where my underwear are officer, but I'd sure appreciate you getting me down from this lamppost' aspect:

[Found at LikeCool]
Of course, this doesn't take into account anything besides wine, or the fact that I'm such a lightweight that looking at a bottle of good booze can cause me to black out. Good idea, though.

Geek Want
* Dude, consider my mind blown:

[Found at LikeCool]
It's a CLOCK made of CLOCKS. It's clocks SQUARED. It is the alpha and omega of clock-ness. Salvador Dali would SHIT himself.

Sherlock Holmes
* The first trailer may have caused several extreme physical and emotional reactions:

I can't really talk about it without DID YOU SEE HIS SUNGLASSES AND HIS PIPE AND HIS HAT OF SEX? AND HE WAS SHIRTLESS AND SWEATY AND HANDCUFFED TO THE BED SWEET JESUS' DONUTS MAKE THE MOVIE BE IN THEATERS NOW.
I'm mildly interested in seeing this film.

[Christopher Eccleston, bringing the sexy from the North]

WTF, INTERNET?
* This couch is all cool and edgy and a great conversation starter until A) you try to watch TV on it and keep getting vertigo:

or B) you get stoned off your ass, try to ski down your couch, and end up in your neighbors' living room. AWKWARD.
